Summary

In this hilarious and heartfelt memoir, award-winning, multi-talented entertainer Jamie Foxx shares the story of being raised by his no-nonsense grandmother, the glamour and pitfalls of life in Hollywood, and the lessons he took from both worlds to raise his two daughters。

Jamie Foxx has won an Academy Award and a Grammy Award, laughed with sitting presidents, and partied with the biggest names in hip-hop。 But he is most proud of his role as father to two very independent young women, Corinne and Anelise。 Jamie might not always know what he’s doing when it comes to raising girls—especially when they talk to him about TikTok (PlikPlok?) and don’t share his enthusiasm for flashy Rolls Royces—but he does his best to show up for them every single day。

Luckily, he has a strong example to follow: his beloved late grandmother, Estelle Marie Talley。  Jamie learned everything he knows about parenting from the fierce woman who raised him: As he puts it, she’s “Madea before Tyler Perry put on the pumps and the gray wig。”

In Act Like You Got Some Sense—a title inspired by Estelle—Jamie shares up close and personal stories about the tough love and old-school values he learned growing up in the small town of Terrell, Texas; his early days trying to make it in Hollywood; the joys and challenges of achieving stardom; and how each phase of his life shaped his parenting journey。 Hilarious, poignant, and always brutally honest, this is Jamie Foxx like we’ve never seen him before。

Firstly, thank you @grandcentralpub for my copy of Act Like You Got Some Sense by Jamie Foxx I've always been a big fan of Jamie's。 I may be an 88' baby but I watched In Living Color all the time and Wanda was iconic in the comedy game!I've followed him over the years with his acting and music。 He's versatile and great at everything he does, he's an entire vibe and the full package。 I'm an audio girl when it comes to memoirs so reading was a bit different but pleasant。 He speaks the full candid Firstly, thank you @grandcentralpub for my copy of Act Like You Got Some Sense by Jamie Foxx I've always been a big fan of Jamie's。 I may be an 88' baby but I watched In Living Color all the time and Wanda was iconic in the comedy game!I've followed him over the years with his acting and music。 He's versatile and great at everything he does, he's an entire vibe and the full package。 I'm an audio girl when it comes to memoirs so reading was a bit different but pleasant。 He speaks the full candid truth about his upbringing (which was very interesting) and what his beautiful daughters, Corinne and Anelise mean to him。 The highs and lows of juggling being a single dad while he rises to fame。 To be clear, he doesn't hold back and I loved that。What I enjoyed most was his beloved grandmother, Estelle。 He spoke so highly of her and the man he turned out to be due to her tough love。 The title is in the book itself。 The blood runs deep and I enjoyed every second of this memoir, some tough yet tender moments will get you! You can pick up @iamjamiefoxx memoir tomorrow, 10/18 I look forward to getting the audiobook which is narrated by him。 。。。more

In this memoir, Jamie Foxx touches on many topics from his past, including his childhood, his unique family structure and his rise to fame。 All of these stories are framed around his role as a father to his two daughters。 Foxx ties each part of this memoir to how his experiences and relationships have prepared him for parenthood。 This book is as much a memoir as it is a book about his successes and failures as a father。 I don't want to say it's a book that gives advice on parenting, although it In this memoir, Jamie Foxx touches on many topics from his past, including his childhood, his unique family structure and his rise to fame。 All of these stories are framed around his role as a father to his two daughters。 Foxx ties each part of this memoir to how his experiences and relationships have prepared him for parenthood。 This book is as much a memoir as it is a book about his successes and failures as a father。 I don't want to say it's a book that gives advice on parenting, although it may seem like it is at first glance。 The message is more was like "this is how I do it and it works for me" type of reflection on parenting。 As with everything that Jamie Foxx produces, he had me LAUGHING OUT LOUD。 His life story is kind of crazy and his family is a big part of why I found this book so intriguing。 He talks a lot about his grandmother, who raised him, and about the evolution of his relationships with his biological mother and father。 I am in awe of his ability to push aside his past anger and resentment and to seize any opportunity he has had to build relationships with them。 I love that Foxx is honest about his shortcomings as a father。 As much as he had every intention of being the best father he could be, his early days of fatherhood were during the most formative years of his entertainment career and he didn't always make the best choices。 I appreciated that he continues to want to strive to be better for his daughters and to learn from his mistakes。If you're looking for a quick, hilarious and entertaining nonfiction read, pick this one up!⚠️: abandonment, child abuse, substance abuse, addiction, incarcerated loved oneThank you to Grand Central Publishing for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Jamie Foxx certainly has some interesting experiences parenting his two daughters and he got most of his tricks from being raised by his grandmother。 In this memoir, he takes a look at what it takes to be a dad and what he's learned from his girls along the way。 I'm not sure if it was the writing style or the way Jamie Foxx tells stories, but this one was a struggle for me。 It felt haphazardly written throughout the course of the book and I had a hard time getting through the whole thing。Thank y Jamie Foxx certainly has some interesting experiences parenting his two daughters and he got most of his tricks from being raised by his grandmother。 In this memoir, he takes a look at what it takes to be a dad and what he's learned from his girls along the way。 I'm not sure if it was the writing style or the way Jamie Foxx tells stories, but this one was a struggle for me。 It felt haphazardly written throughout the course of the book and I had a hard time getting through the whole thing。Thank you so much to Grand Central for the advance reading copy! 。。。more

I was able to read the book in a day, it was a easy and interesting read。 Some stories I wanted to know more。 But it’s known that the author is a good story teller。 Learning more about his grandmother whom he has spoken fondly about even when he spoke of her firmness。 His grandmother standing up in church declaring what she did was a standout moment in the book。 How it stuck with him stood out as well。 His disappointment in how his parents wasn’t able to be there for him was apparent, Life as a I was able to read the book in a day, it was a easy and interesting read。 Some stories I wanted to know more。 But it’s known that the author is a good story teller。 Learning more about his grandmother whom he has spoken fondly about even when he spoke of her firmness。 His grandmother standing up in church declaring what she did was a standout moment in the book。 How it stuck with him stood out as well。 His disappointment in how his parents wasn’t able to be there for him was apparent, Life as a parent in what clearly is different approach just based on his daughters age difference and his southern upbringing。 There were a couple of emotional moments that made the stories and author seem relatable, 。。。more

Liked reading about authors background and then all through his years of making it in Hollywood。 His love for his daughters and family are very evident。 Good read! Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book。 While I got the book for free, it had no bearing on the rating I gave it。
